Yeah!

I started developing on my new P1i some days ago. After accessing the camera and using that image to render something with opengl es, I was at a point where I thought "I can do ANYTHING HARHARHAR" ... but I got stopped painfully with the capabilities for which I would need to register at symbiansigned (where they won't even take my email!)

lost interest in development here just this second :/

Indeed. Not a very friendly way to keep developers. I actually enjoy writing Symbian C++ application but yes, it sux having to jump through hoops to do so.

I feel your pain. My own personal dungeon is the ATG stack. which REALLY wants to be built on more robust and more recent (and better supported) open source libraries. The tech was cool and groundbreaking about a decade ago I'm sure (so I've been told), but it's destined to gather dust if they don't get their act together and up the ante by making it a more open platform and allowing developers to leverage existing knowledge. Who out there outside of ATG's inner circle has heard of "Nucleus" or "Repository"?

**deafening silence**

Now what about Spring and Hibernate? Even non Java developers know about that and it's even been ported to .NET! It's only a matter of time before somebody builds the better platform, and if it's not ATG then they will lose because their crap went stale.

You should try out the Blackberry development - there's a TON of stuff to download to get it all working, but once it's all there you can create all you want. And you can either install locally, or upload it to a website and install them over-the-air. There are APIs for either java, .NET, or some proprietary language they have. They are definitely aiming for the corporate environment!
